Welcome to my website.
I am excited to be running for the Greensboro City Council. I
served as the District Four representative from 1997-2001. After
the birth of my daughter in 2000, I chose to reprioritize my
commitments and I came to the conclusion that, at that time, the
time required to adequately serve the residents of Greensboro was
more than I was willing to give.
Since then circumstances have changed and I feel that the time is
right, to once again, seek elected office.
Last year the Business Journal ran an article entitled “Two
Thirds bonds make a comeback in Greensboro.” I was surprised to see
the following quote:
“…about a dozen years ago, two-thirds bonds in
Greensboro, which had been used effectively for years, were tabled.
In the mid-1990s, several new council
members, led by former member Nancy Mincello
[Vaughan], argued that voters should have a say in all bonds, and
that doing otherwise was tantamount to under-minding the will of the
people.
Keep in mind that the context of those
times was that the citizens in northwest Greensboro had risen up against the
city’s desire to rezone more than 400 wooded acres of land owned by
Jefferson-Pilot for commercial development.
In a little-used tactic, residents
gathered enough signatures to force City Council
to reconsider its zoning decision. That uprising,
which launched Mincello’s [Vaughan] political career, marked a time
of high distrust between many residents and its elected officials.”
In many ways I feel we have come full circle.
Greensboro is a great City and I am dedicated to improving our
quality of life.
